New Westminster ‘targeted assault’ leaves man hurt: police

Police in New Westminster say one person is recovering after being significantly hurt in what’s being called a “targeted assault.”

The New Westminster Police Department (NWPD) says officers were called to the area of Carnarvon Street and Alexander Street around 1:30 a.m. on Monday for reports of “a victim in distress.”

Officers, along with BC Emergency Health Services paramedics, arrived and found a victim with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries, police say.

Investigators say it is believed two people armed with weapons assaulted the victim.

“At this time officers are canvassing the area for CCTV footage of the suspects,” Sgt. Andrew Leaver said. “There are indications this is a targeted assault.”

Police are asking anyone with information to call the NWPD at 604-525-5411.
