BC Ferries preps for busy Victoria Day long weekend

BC Ferries is sending out a warning ahead of the Victoria Day long weekend: it’s going to be busy.

The ferry service expects to see over 430,000 passengers and 170,000 vehicles over the weekend, so they’re adding 95 extra sailings in response.

“Like the Easter long weekend, we continue to face staffing challenges and the potential for cancellations,” said Dean Dobrinsky, Interim Vice President, People and Culture.

“I want to thank all our employees who are accepting overtime to help us deliver extra sailings to support customers through this busy weekend.”

66 of the added sailings come on the Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay route, 18 are scheduled on the Horseshoe Bay to Departure Bay route, and 11 extra sailings have been added to the Horseshoe Bay to Langdale route.

BC Ferries says there aren’t many reservations left for those heading from Horseshoe Bay to Vancouver Island for the long weekend, so they recommend departing from Tsawwassen.

For those traveling in busier conditions, BC Ferries suggests booking in advance, arriving early, and being prepared for sailing waits.
