Former Global BC anchor Deb Hope dies at 67

Long-time Vancouver broadcaster Deb Hope has passed away at the age of 67.

The beloved and respected Global News anchor was 59 when she retired in 2014. She was then diagnosed with Alzheimer’s but a tribute posted in the Vancouver Sun and Province newspapers in 2020 noted “there were signs” of the disease before she stepped back from her job.

Reporting in her earlier years, Hope anchored the noon, 5 p.m., and Global’s flagship “News Hour” broadcast, usually alongside Tony Parsons. She was also renowned for her laugh.

“It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Deb Hope. She was one of the most iconic faces in B.C. for decades and will be deeply missed. We are thinking of her family and loved ones. RIP Deb,” Global News said in a tweet Monday, paying tribute to the former broadcaster.

According to the outlet, Hope joined the station, then-BCTV, in 1981. She was born in Trail and went to UBC where her passion for journalism grew.

Tributes have been pouring in since word of Hope’s passing.

Many took to social media to share memories of the broadcaster, with many saying she will be deeply missed.

She leaves behind her husband Roger, and two daughters, Katherine and Roxanne.
