Man drowns in creek in attempt to save dog: West Vancouver Police

The body of a man who drowned trying to save his dog was found Saturday morning, according to the West Vancouver Police Department.

Police say officers were called to Cypress Falls Park around 9 p.m. on Friday night.

The man in his 40s, along with his wife, were out walking the dog in the park when it went into the creek but was “swept away in the water.”

The man then entered the “fast-flowing creek” to rescue the dog, but was also swept away, police say.

Around 8 a.m. Saturday, police say the body of the man was recovered from the creek, along with the dog who was also found dead.

“This was not the outcome we had all hoped for and it is an enormous tragedy for the family of the victim and our community,” Sgt Mark McLean said.

“Our hearts go out to them.”

The name of the man will not be released for privacy reasons, police say.
