2 North Vancouver hiking trails rank among top 10 to get search and rescue calls: BCSARA

Two hiking trails in North Vancouver are among the top 10 hiking trails to see the most search and rescue calls last year, according to the BC Search and Rescue Association (BCSARA).

In a news release, the BCSARA says based on data from last year, the trails saw the most hiking-related rescue calls in the province.

Two trails in North Vancouver ranked on the lower half of the list with the Grouse Grind and Mount Seymour trails taking up the sixth and eighth spots.

The Rubble Creek trail, heading to Black Tusk trail, in Whistler took the top spot for the highest number of calls in the province, with two other trails near Whistler also making the list — the Wedgemount Lake trail in seventh place, and the Rainbow Mountain trail in ninth.

The Howe Sound Crest trail near Porteau took the second spot, while the Juan de Fuca Marine trail at Juan de Fuca Provincial Park took the third.

Two trails near Squamish took up the fourth and fifth spots — Stawamus Chief trail and the Sea to Summit trail.

At the bottom of the list ranked the Cape Scott trail which is located at Cape Scott Provincial Park.

As dozens of hikers get outside on the trails, the association says its important to be prepared. It encourages people to bring essentials like water and food, and to make sure you have a map or navigation tool.
