Mounties in Surrey say two drivers were caught going over double the speed limit in an apparent drag race Wednesday.
According to the Surrey RCMP, officers found the two vehicles racing each other at 101 kilometres per hour in a 50 kilometres per hour zone in Newton.
The two drivers, who had been in a green Chevrolet Camaro and a red Ford Mustang, were given violation tickets for $736 each.
In a tweet, police explain the two vehicles were also impounded for seven days.
Multiple people responded to the Surrey RCMP’s tweet, voicing their opinions on the degree of punishment handed out.
Those fines are nowhere near high enough.

“Suspend their driver’s license for a year,” one user said.
“I don’t think that’s enough of a consequence,” said another.
“7 days is a slap on the wrist, double the fine, 14 days impound, 30-day license suspension, and quadruple the insurance premiums,” said another user in their response.
