Hwy 17, Old Yale Road reopen after fatal Surrey crash

One person has died and two others have been taken to the hospital after a crash in the area of Highway 17 and Old Yale Road in Surrey.

Just before 7 p.m. Friday, Mounties in Surrey said the Whalley-area intersection where the crash took place had just opened back up.

The intersection had been closed since the two-vehicle collision happened around 12:30 p.m.

Police kept it closed while they looked into the cause of the crash.

The Criminal Collison Investigating Team (CCIT) and Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Team (ICARS) were both called in Friday afternoon, and are “working to determine all factors that led to this fatal collision.”

“Despite the efforts of first responders, one person has succumbed to their injuries,” the RCMP explains in a release.

Investigators say they will be looking into the circumstances around the crash, “including what role speed or other driving behaviours may have played.”

Police are asking anyone who may have been in the area of the crash when it happened to contact the RCMP at 604-599-0502.
