Man charged in connection with Surrey drive-thru tirade

Mounties in Surrey say charges have been laid in relation to a viral video showing a man berating workers at a drive-thru in the city earlier this year.

On Friday, the Surrey RCMP announced that 31-year-old Omar Christian Maybaum was charged with assault and causing a disturbance in connection with the February incident.

    Video of the incident went viral on social media, showing a man at a Tim Horton’s drive-thru yelling expletives at workers, demanding coffee before speeding off.

    The person who posted the video on TikTok told CityNews at the time that the restaurant at 152nd Street and Highway 10 was having payment issues at the time and was only accepting cash.

    The video sparked conversations about the abuse that some in the food service industry face.

    Police say he was arrested on May 24 and has since been released with conditions, including not being allowed to contact the victim, being banned from the restaurant, and not to possess any weapons.
