It appears a fan-powered paraglider ran out of gas and ended up tangled in phone lines, leaving the rider dangling about 20 feet off the ground Friday evening, city officials say.
According to the City of Vernon, fire crews were called to an area near Highway 97 and 43rd Avenue around 7:40 p.m.
When firefighters arrived, the city says officers raised a ladder that had an attached bucket and helped get the paraglider down.
“It appears the paraglider ran out of fuel and the operator had to make an emergency landing,” Deputy Fire Chief Alan Hofsink said.
“The patient was assessed by paramedics on site and no injuries were reported. We’re proud of the quick and creative work of the crew to complete this rescue and we’re thankful that everyone was kept safe.”
Mounties in the area were also on the scene, and the city says the rescue took about 20 minutes.
