Vancouver free bike storage, valet service launches downtown

You’ve probably heard of car valets, but what about a valet for your bike?

The City of Vancouver is launching a new Bike Valet service where peddlers can drop off their rides for free over the summer.

But it isn’t just for bikes, as the city notes roller blades, scooters, bike trailers, strollers, and personal mobility devices can all be stashed in the space.

“A new bike valet service in the heart of the city means you can explore everything downtown Vancouver has to offer knowing your bike is safe and secure. Active transportation users will be able to park their wheels for a few minutes or all day and stroll the city centre stress-free knowing their rides are protected,” Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim said.

Located beside Vancouver City Centre SkyTrain Station on Granville Street at the corner of Georgia Street, the service is set to be open every day:

  • Monday to Friday: 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
  • Saturday and Sunday: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

“By encouraging more people to choose cycling and offering a secure parking alternative, the Bike Valet plays a pivotal role in promoting clean and healthy ways to travel around the city,” a news release reads.

But don’t forget to pick up your rides by the end of the day, as any bikes that aren’t grabbed will be stored at the Vancouver Police Department, the release adds.

The program is set to start on June 19, and can hold up to 100 bikes.
