Huge drug shipment smuggled in canola oil jugs: CBSA

Thousands of kilograms of methamphetamine hidden inside jugs labelled “canola oil” were seized by border agents in Metro Vancouver.

In a news release, the Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) says officers seized more than 6,330 kilograms of the drug over the last six months, which was dispersed in more than 400 jugs.

It is also being dubbed as the largest shipment to be at a Canadian port, the CBSA adds.

The CBSA says both crystal methamphetamine and liquid methamphetamine were found during the four mass seizures and destined for Australia.

“These significant seizures can be attributed to the collaboration of multiple CBSA units, including teams in the Metro Vancouver District and Pacific Region Intelligence Section, along with the collaboration and contributions from our domestic and international law enforcement partners such as the Australian Federal Police, the Australian Border Service, the New Zealand Police and Customs Service,” the release reads.

The seizures occurred from December of 2021 to May of this year.
