Stanley Cup to come to B.C. after Vegas Golden Knights win

The Stanley Cup will be making at least one visit to B.C.

The Vegas Golden Knights defeated the Florida Panthers Tuesday night, taking the series in five games.

B.C. has three connections to the winning team, with Aldergrove’s Shea Theodore, and goalies Adin Hill from Comox and Laurent Brossoit born in Port Alberni.

Each player will get a chance to show off the NHL’s top trophy, with many in the past typically bringing the cup to their hometowns in celebration.

“It’s just awesome, it’s unbelievable, I can’t even imagine we’re here,” Theodore told Sportsnet’s Kyle Bukauskas post-win.

“My family’s here so it’s pretty special to have them here for it. I’m definitely looking forward to bringing the cup back home.”

Theodore’s first win comes just a few years after he was diagnosed with and beat cancer.

“I’m definitely grateful for every day and especially for a day like today,” he added.

Meanwhile, Hill says the whole experience has been surreal.

“I was just thinking about getting my gear off,” he said of the final seconds of the game.

“I just felt like I simplified my game and our team simplified our game. We just played the way we needed to play and we played winning hockey.”

The Golden Knights’ win is a first for the six-year-old franchise, which has only missed the playoffs once since joining the NHL prior to the 2017-18 season.
