Black bear siblings spotted roaming in East Vancouver, Burnaby

A pair of young black bears were spotted with their heads peeping out from the tops of trees in two Metro Vancouver cities Friday.

Over in East Vancouver, the BC Conservation Officer Service (COS) says the first was spotted over by the PNE near Ferndale Street.

A second bear was seen in Burnaby close to the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT).

The COS says the bears are believed to be siblings who are old enough to be away from their mother.

“Conservation Officers consulted with wildlife biologists to assess the condition of the bears. The COS determined there was no aggressive or conflict behaviour associated to these bears. Both bears will be held overnight and relocated to a wilderness location outside of the city,” a statement from the COS reads.

The two lumbering creatures were tranquilized and taken down from the trees, the COS adds.

If you spot a bear in an urban area, the COS asks that you call the Report All Poachers and Polluters (RAPP) hotline at 1-877-952-7277.
