Jericho Lands housing development looks to add 13,000 units of housing to Vancouver

An Indigenous-led housing development near Jericho Beach is looking to add 13,000 units of housing to Vancouver.
The xʷməθkʷəy҆əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱ wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations are partnering on the project, saying it will bring affordable housing, enhanced public space, a school, hundreds of daycare spaces within five spots, and seniors residences.
Located in Vancouver’s West Point Grey neighbourhood, a concept plan unveiled by the MST Corporation on Friday shows a mix of high-rise and low to mid-rise developments, with roughly 30 high-rise towers planned.

The tallest of the towers would be the “Three Sentinels” which consists of three 49-storey towers that symbolize the three Nations.
“The ridge is where we would look for friends and foes. It’s how we welcomed and safeguarded, where our watchmen, messengers, and warriors watched, ran, and protected. The ridge was also rich with resources, a place where we hunted elk, harvested crab apples, and dried fish in the warm summer wind,” the concept plan reads.
The MST Corporation is also working alongside the Canada Lands Company, a crown corporation that specializes in real estate and development.
An initial concept plan for Jericho Lands was released back in 2021, but the MST Corporation says it revised the plan to provide more housing, green space, and add employment opportunities for the area.
The City of Vancouver is taking feedback on the plan in an online survey, and in-person feedback can be given at open houses.
The city is expected to review a final draft of the Jericho Lands master plan in the fall.
