A pig that had been living near a rest stop north of Hixon, B.C. was recently rescued.
According to a Facebook post from a pig rescue group in Prince George, the “rest stop piggy” looked like it had been spending time around the rest stop for “some time.”
“Construction workers thought she must have came from a nearby farm, saying she has been there off and on, mooching food,” reads a post from PG Tickled Pig Rescue.
Tickled Pig Rescue says quite a few people living nearby showed up to rescue the pig, but apparently, no one has been able to figure out just where she’s from.
“We drove around in search of a home she may have wandered away from. There were no homes close by.”
Tickled Pig Rescue’s post explains she is “in desperate need of a hoof trim,” and says she will be getting veterinary care Thursday.
“Her hooves are very overgrown which causes an extreme amount of pain and can cause permanent damage that will affect her legs for the rest of her life,” reads a post from Tickled Pig Rescue.
“She will be put under anesthesia on Thursday afternoon to have her hooves trimmed by Dr. Green/Dr. Vesper at Green Mobile Veterinary Services. They are the best!”
Although she seems like she’s been hungry for some time, Tickled Pig Rescue says the pig “has not been interested in eating anything other than donuts.”
The rescue service asked its followers what the pig’s name should be, and one person said she should be called Clover, “because she is damn lucky to be rescued” by Tickled Pig Rescue.
Anyone wanting to donate and help pay for the lost pig’s veterinary care can find information on Tickled Pig Rescue’s Facebook page. A Tuesday update from the rescue service said $560 in donations had been made toward the pig’s care.
