Go Skate Day returns to Vancouver

CityNews video journalist Kier Junos joins Vancouver skateboarders as they take to the streets in the city’s biggest celebration of the sport.

Hundreds of skateboard enthusiasts were in Downtown Vancouver Wednesday to kick off the summer with Go Skate Day (GSD).

The internationally celebrated day sees skateboarders from around the world participate in various events, attempt new tricks, and hang out with pro-boarders.

In a post on Instagram, Timebomb Trading Inc. says roughly 10,000 showed up during the day which kicked off at the Downtown Skate Plaza on Georgia and Dunsmuir streets.

“This year’s GSD will feature two new spots, 3 new obstacles added to some fav spots, and a new BBQ ender. Also… Thrasher is filming its ‘Vacations’ series that will feature 10+ global pro riders (swipe) who will be coming through to skate with you!” the post reads.

It adds that boarders also had the chance to win some money, as $2,500 in prizes was up for grabs for tricks.

Hundreds also took to the streets in mass rides, with the day slated to finish off with a BBQ.
