A severe thunderstorm watch alert has been issued for parts of the Fraser Valley Tuesday morning.
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) says that “conditions are favourable” for thunderstorms to develop in the eastern portion of the valley, including Chilliwack Lake Provincial Park, Skagit Valley Provincial Park, and Manning Park.
“Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees, and overturn large vehicles. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads,” ECCC said in its alert.
The agency is reminding residents that lightning strikes can cause serious harm and at times death.
“Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!”
The warning comes as the region sees a string of warmer weather this week. According to CityNews Meteorologist Michael Kuss, coastal areas of the Lower Mainland will feel like 25 degrees, while parts of the valley may feel like 28 degrees due to humidity.
