Vancouver mayor shotguns drink at Khatsahlano Street Party

A video of Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim at the Khatsahlano Street Party is making the rounds on social media.

In the video, Sim is seen shotgunning a drink can with two other men on one of the event stages.

As Sim finishes his drink a speaker can be heard saying, “Who says Vancouver is no fun!” — a reference to comments that Vancouver is a “no-fun city.”

The video has drawn mixed reactions online, with some praising the mayor’s technique and relaxed attitude.

“Pretty good form from the mayor. Not a lot of drips coming from the can either. The man is clearly a former accountant,” one person said.

One notes that Sim is entitled to have a little fun on his time off, regardless of what he does for a living.

“You may disagree with his politics, which I do, but everyone is entitled to have fun on their time off, imo,” another person said.

“Just plain old fun! Refreshing. It’s great to have community events like Khatsahlano bringing people together,” another said.

Others have criticized the move, suggesting that Sim should focus more on the city’s housing crisis rather than chugging drinks.

“Sorry when more housing?” one respondent said.

The Khatsahlano Street Party celebrated it’s 11th festival Saturday, as more than 60 performers took to the stage during the event.
