Multiple BC Ferries sailings between Tsawwassen, Swartz Bay fully booked

BC Ferries passengers say delays and cancellations like those that happened over the long weekend have become so common, they’re expected. But as Kier Junos reports, even on a normal day, regular commuters say it makes getting to work nerve-wracking.

Those looking to hop on a ferry leaving Tsawwassen or Swartz Bay may have trouble getting on as multiple evening sailings are completely full.

According to BC Ferries, oil was detected “coming from the propellor hub of the Coastal Celebration,” prompting the cancellation of the 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. sailings.

The 3 p.m., 4 p.m., and 5 p.m. sailings are now full, with both the 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. sailings filling up quickly.

As for the vessel, BC Ferries says, “An underwater dive is planned for tonight in order to make a full assessment of the extent of the damage and develop a detailed repair plan.”

This comes after the same ship experienced “unexpected complications with its propulsion system” in June, prompting the service to cut several sailings over the Canada Day long weekend.
