North Vancouver RCMP arrests 2 after drugs, cash found during traffic stop

Mounties in North Vancouver say two people have been arrested and are facing multiple charges after police found drugs, weapons, and stolen items during a traffic stop.

According to the North Vancouver RCMP, an officer spotted a white Volkswagen driving in the wrong direction in the area of Alberta Street and West 3 Street early on Friday morning.

When the officer pulled the driver over, Mounties say the suspect got out of the vehicle and ran away.

After a 10-minute chase on foot, the man was arrested several blocks away.

Police say both the driver, a man in his 30s, and a female passenger, were arrested.

The man is facing multiple charges, including possession of stolen property, impaired operation of a motor vehicle, obstruction, possession for the purpose of trafficking, driving while prohibited, and firearms offenses.

The passenger is also facing various charges, including trafficking, possession of stolen property, and firearms offences.

“Incidents like these highlight the dangers our officers face and the level of fitness required to carry out our duties,” Const. Mansoor Sahak of the North Vancouver RCMP said.

“In this instance, we are glad that we were able to not only apprehend the suspects, but also take a gun off the streets.”
