One charged for stealing a Pride flag in North Vancouver

Mounties in North Vancouver say a man has been arrested and charged in connection with the theft of a Pride flag from Lonsdale Quay.
The North Vancouver RCMP says the May 25 incident was brought to their attention when it was posted on social media.

Police say they arrested a suspect on June 22 and recommended charges. The BC Prosecution Service formally charged Kristopher Kamienik on Wednesday with one count of theft under $5,000 and one count of mischief under $5,000.
“We have absolutely no tolerance for behaviour that seeks to marginalize, belittle, or intimidate members of our LGBTQ2S+ community, and we will do everything we can to investigate hate crimes and hate-motivated incidents, in order to see those responsible held to account,” said Cst. Mansoor Sahak.
“We would like to thank those that came forward to provide statements and for the community for their patience as Police investigated this incident.”
Police say a flag pole was also damaged in the process.
