West and North Vancouver police arrest seven in shoplifting crackdown

Police in North and West Vancouver took action against shoplifting at Park Royal Mall last week — making seven arrests in the process.

A unit from the North Vancouver RCMP alongside officers from the West Vancouver Police and Metro Vancouver Transit Police spent July 13 conducting a “shoplifting blitz” at the popular shopping centre.

“This shoplifting blitz highlights the level of collaboration amongst Police agencies on the North Shore,” said West Vancouver Police Department’s Cst. Nicole Braithwaite.

“We routinely work with partner agencies in a joint operation, such as this shoplifting blitz, to target criminals who do not see municipal boundaries,” said North Vancouver RCMP’s Cst. Mansoor Sahak.

Police say officers spent six hours in and around Park Royal Mall operating on foot, on bikes, and in vehicles “to target known offenders and monitor suspicious persons.”

In a release, police explain seven were arrested and four charges have been forwarded — with officers managing to recover $2,500 worth of store merchandise.

“The number of arrests is a strong reflection that teamwork made this joint effort a success,” said Constable Amanda Steed of the Metro Vancouver Transit Police.
