1 person dead in West Vancouver crash

A crash in West Vancouver early Thursday morning has left one person dead.
Police say it happened around 1 a.m. in the area of Welch Street and Capilano Road. They explain a “large commercial vehicle” hit a man in his 40s who was riding an electric skateboard.
Despite the efforts of paramedics, the man died of his injuries.
“This is a horrible situation that has left everyone involved shaken,” Sgt. Mark McLean said. “Our thoughts are with the friends and family of the victim.”
The incident forced the closure of the intersection for several hours. It reopened at 6 a.m.
The circumstances around what led to the crash are still unclear, with police saying they are still investigating.
Police add support through Victim Services is being offered to everyone involved.
