The Chilliwack Fire Department says several people and their pets were displaced from their homes after a suite fire.
According to a release, the fire started in a house on Young Road on Monday morning — crews responded to the call around 10:40 a.m.
Fire crews say they saw heavy smoke and flames coming from a suite near the back of the home. By the time they arrived, all of the people and pets that had been living in the home had managed to evacuate.
A team of 22 firefighters responded with a water supply in tow and attacked the blaze — labelled a second-alarm fire — upon arrival.
“The quick actions of fire crews prevented the fire from spreading to the main area of the house, containing the fire to the suite of origin, which suffered major fire damage.”
Chilliwack Fire says everyone came out of the situation unscathed, as no residents or firefighters were injured in the process of knocking the fire down.
Investigators eventually determined the suite went up in flames due to accidental causes, but Chilliwack Fire made a point in their release to remind people that “extension cords are for temporary use only.”
