The Surrey RCMP says new information suggests the abduction of two children, who are now the subjects of a nearly week-long Amber ALERT, was planned in advance.
The Amber ALERT for the children was issued on Wednesday, July 19, after the children were not returned to their father, who has primary custody, in Surrey on July 17.
The eight-year-old girl and 10-year-old boy had been on vacation with their mother.
The Surrey RCMP now says it’s believed the abduction was pre-planned and that the 45-year-old, her father, and her boyfriend, have moved “off the grid” with the children, and that they’re living in trailers somewhere in a rural area.
Police also released more information Monday about the men believed to be travelling with the mother and the children.
“The circumstances around this are part of the on-going investigation,” the RCMP explained.
Mounties say it’s been confirmed that the father was picked up by the mother.
He has not returned home since.
Last confirmed sightings
The last confirmed sighting of the children was at a gas station in Merritt on July 7.
Meanwhile, the mother was last seen at a Kamloops grocery store on July 15. Police have said, based on surveillance footage, the children were not seen with her.
According to the RCMP, the siblings left Surrey on June 28. It’s unclear when their father last had contact with the kids.
Anyone who sees the the children or mother is asked to not approach them and to call 9-1-1 and mention the Amber ALERT.
