A Calgary teen is facing charges in connection to a shooting at a residence in B.C. back in April.

Charges, including one for attempted murder, have been laid in connection with a shooting in Surrey this past April.

In addition to that charge, the RCMP says a 19-year-old from Calgary is also facing one count of arson, one of discharge of a firearm, and one of possession of a prohibited weapon and ammunition related to the incident that left one man hurt in the Newton area.

It happened on April 17 in the area of 76 Avenue and 148 Street. Mounties received reports of a shooting in the neighbourhood just after 4 p.m.

The man found hurt was taken to the hospital with what were described as non-life-threatening injuries.

Initially, police said a white van was seen leaving the scene shortly after the shooting. A vehicle was found in the area of 147 Street and 69 Avenue on fire a short time later.

The RCMP says it was able to identify a suspect over the course of its investigation. In coordination with law enforcement in Alberta, 19-year-old Akoch Piot was arrested on July 17 in Calgary and transferred back to B.C., where he is currently awaiting a court appearance.
