B.C. teacher banned for life after ‘communicating’ with student on dating site

A former B.C. high school teacher has been banned for life from teaching after “communicating” with a student on an online dating site, according to regulators.

According to the British Columbia Commissioner for Teacher Regulation, the teacher knew that the student likely went to a school within the district that they worked in.

It goes on to say that the teacher “developed an inappropriately close relationship” with the student, citing concerns including meeting together in a vehicle, and “discussing sexual activity” and other personal information.

The notice adds that the student was also paid for performing “some work” for the teacher, which is unspecified.

In 2019, the notice explains the teacher was suspended by the district from teaching due to professional misconduct allegations.

During the course of the investigation, the notice adds that the teacher “attempted to interfere,” and claims the teacher lied and had others lie on their behalf.

It adds the teacher agreed to a consent resolution agreement, and to the cancelation of his certificate of qualification, which was valid from 2013.

He also received a lifetime ban from teaching.

The school district, names, and ages of the people involved have not been stated due to minors being involved.
