Police say a three-legged dog has been rescued from a wildfire near Cranbrook, B.C., after being left behind during an evacuation.
According to the Cranbrook RCMP, Mounties were called to the ʔaq’am Community on July 17 after the Nation reported it was in “immediate danger” due to a spreading wildfire.
The community was evacuated, however, one beloved furry-family member was left behind.
On July 20, Mounties say three officers from the Indigenous Policing Services went back for Three-Leg, who was eventually found hiding under the stairs of her home.
The dog was successfully rescued and taken to a veterinary clinic, where she has since been found to be in “good health.”
“A heartfelt recognition goes out to Cst. Peers, Cst. Webb, and Cst. Stanley, for their efforts during this time of crisis. Their good news story provides a beacon of hope amidst the ongoing wildfire disaster,” a news release reads.
