North Shore Rescue saves hiker from the top of The Lions

A man has been “extracted” off the top of one of Metro Vancouver’s most visible mountain peaks, after getting stuck while hiking Saturday.

The North Shore Rescue says it was called out at around 6 a.m. Sunday to help the Lions Bay Search and Rescue team rescue the hiker from the West Lion Peak.

NSR says the hiker “got off route” on Saturday evening and got stuck on a ledge.

He was able to call 911, and Lions Bay SAR responded.

“A team hiked up, and located him about 2am. Due to his location, it was decided that a long line was the best extraction method,” NSR said on social media.

Crews flew into the area with a Talon helicopter, and using a fixed line, harnessed the hiker in and flew him to the Lions Bay school field.

“A reminder to always stick together if you are hiking in a group and never leave anyone behind.

“Thank you to LB SAR for the opportunity to assist, and Talon Helicopters,” NSR said.
