Federal Conservatives using new ad campaign to reintroduce Poilievre

The Federal Conservatives have launched a new advertisement campaign to reintroduce leader Pierre Poilievre to voters.

One of the advertisements features a softer political style and is family-focused, showing Poilievre playing with his children in a park and walking with his wife Anaida, who narrates the video.

“Who is Pierre Poilievre? Many know him as the common-sense leader the country needs,” she said in the advertisement.

“I know him as a guy who loves me for who I am — a Canadian who came to call Canada home and his wife … his dad knows him as the son he took to early morning hockey games.”

The family-focused advertisement is one of three that are set to air and they are being launched days after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his wife Sophie announced their separation.

Multiple public opinion polls show the Conservatives leading the Liberals by as much as ten points.

Efforts to improve Poilievre’s image have been going on for some time. He started sporting a new summer look in June to improve likeability.

He started wearing his glasses less, wearing a t-shirt instead of a tie, and even talking in a slow, calm voice.

At the time, Lori Williams, a political science professor at Mount Royal called it a risky move that may not pay off. She speculated that poor performance from Conservatives in Toronto’s mayoral race and other byelection results had sparked the change from the Tory leader.
