Ground has broken on a new affordable housing development for seniors in Delta, the B.C. government has announced.
Ravi Kahlon, B.C.’s Minister of Housing, shared the details of the new apartment building on 54A Street which will be operated by KinVillage Association.
“These affordable and accessible new homes will help seniors in Delta stay in the community they know and love, close to their friends, family and services they rely on,” said Kahlon. “Our government shares the community’s excitement in seeing construction begin on this project, and we look forward to continuing our work with partners to support seniors’ housing needs.”

The province says the new building will have 145 one-bedroom units and seven two-bedroom apartments. Additionally, it says every unit will be accessible, or easily adaptable to residents’ changing needs. There will also be 77 parking spaces, an amenity program, an outdoor rooftop deck with green space, and storage lockers.

The new build will replace an existing three-storey, 86-unit complex on the same site, which will be levelled once the new building is complete. The province says residents at the old site will have the option to relocate to the new one.
George Harvie, Mayor of Delta, says he’s “excited” to see construction begin on the “ambitious” project.
“This is a much-welcomed project for our community and we look forward to the positive impact it will have for seniors wanting to age in place,” he said.
Construction of the new apartment complex is expected to be completed by late next year. The province says rents will be a mix of prices that are geared to residents’ income, but notes that final rates will be determined closer to the building’s opening.
The new build is part of a $19 billion housing investment from the province, with $17 million being provided directly to the KinVillage project.
