Homicide investigators say they’ve identified a vehicle and are seeking a third suspect wanted in connection with the June murder of Surrey Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

The Lower Mainland’s Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) says it believes a silver 2008 Toyota Camry was waiting near the intersection of 121 Street and 68 Avenue during the June 18 shooting.

Investigators have confirmed they are now looking for a third suspect connected to the incident.

“Every resource that this investigation requires, it’s getting. We are working very hard to progress this investigation and we’ll continue to do that as long as we can,” said Sgt. Timothy Pierotti, IHIT media relations officer.

This comes after the temple where the Sikh leader was shot and killed filed a petition to the federal government to respond to allegations of foreign interference in his death. The petition closed on Aug. 3 with 1,018 signatures.

Nijjar was found inside a vehicle with gunshot wounds in his temple’s parking lot in June. The 45-year-old succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

He was the president of the Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara and a vocal advocate for an independent Sikh state of Khalistan in India. There, he was accused of terrorism and conspiring to murder a Hindu priest.
