The black bear that was believed to have attacked a hiker in Squamish over the weekend has been put down by conservation officers.
The B.C. Conservation Officer Service (COS) posted an update on social media Monday saying the animal was euthanized on Sunday near where the attack took place.
It says two other groups of people had been approached by a bear in the same area after the initial incident.

Around 7 p.m. Saturday, the COS says a black bear swatted at and followed a woman who was hiking along Coho Trail. She was eventually assisted by a cyclist who saw what was happening. The woman was not seriously injured.
Conservation officers say while no other bears have been spotted in the area, the trail will remain closed until “at least” Thursday.
In light of the recent incident, the COS is encouraging people to take precautions while hiking, including travelling in groups, keeping pets on a leash, and carrying bear spray.
