The annual Terry Fox Run is set to take place Sunday, Sept. 17, marking the 43rd year of the fundraiser.
Over 9,000 runs are held across the country each year, with the goal of raising money to fund innovative cancer research, according to the Terry Fox Foundation.

The event is named after the Port Coquitlam native runner who began his Marathon of Hope in April 1980 at the age of 18, with the goal of raising money to find a cure for cancer.
He had been diagnosed with bone cancer in 1977, with his leg amputated six inches above the knee as a result.
Fox started his Marathon of Hope with the intention of running across Canada. He ran for 143 days and was then forced to stop after cancer returned to his lungs, the Terry Fox Foundation says. Fox ended his journey Sept. 1, 1980, having run 5,373 kilometres, or an average of 42 kilometres per day. He made it all the way from Newfoundland and into Ontario before he had to stop.
In honour of his hometown, a special commemorative Hometown run takes place each year in Port Coquitlam, beginning at Terry Fox Hometown Square.
Anyone wishing to take part in the run can sign up at terryfox.org. Those wishing to join the Port Coquitlam Hometown Run are asked to register at 8 a.m. in Hometown Square, with the race starting at 10 a.m.
