Fans upset after Drake concert postponed

Monday night was supposed to be the first of two Drake concerts in Vancouver. But as Kier Junos reports, fans were told it was being postponed because of technical issues at Rogers Arena, two hours before the show.

Rogers Arena says tech issues Monday night led to Drake’s first of two shows being postponed until Wednesday.

The announcement came from Rogers Arena and Canucks Sports and Entertainment around 6 p.m., Monday — just two hours before the show was set to start.

Some people waiting in line to get wristbands for the Tuesday show say the organizers need to make it up to fans who can’t go on Wednesday.

“Some of the people came and spent their whole day waiting in the streets — so owe ’em a bit for sure,” said one person outside of the arena.

“I have a cousin who was supposed to be here tonight, I mean yesterday night … now he’s coming here tonight to resell his ticket and that’s kind of a struggle for him,” another said.

“We were all crying, upset, and a lot of people flew out here.”

The announcement explained that “unforeseen circumstances” with Rogers Arena’s newly installed video board were to blame, and that all tickets to Monday’s show would be honoured on Wednesday instead.

The concert was the first of two scheduled back-to-back Vancouver shows on the superstar rapper’s It’s All A Blur Tour.

One concert-goer — Sneh Savanna — says she waited in line for 20 hours to get her Tuesday night wristband and she feels for those who did the same for Monday’s show.

“A lot of people came from all around Canada — Edmonton, Calgary, Toronto — just to see the Vancouver show,” she said. “I felt bad because a lot of their flights were today.”

CityNews reached out to Canucks Sports and Entertainment for an interview to get more information on what exactly happened, but it declined to comment.
