Police say a man is recovering in the hospital after a shooting in Chilliwack over the long weekend.
The Chilliwack RCMP says on Sept. 3, it responded to calls of a “disturbance” at a home on Chilliwack Lake Road, near Vedder Road, just before 6 p.m.
When officers arrived, they found a 35-year-old man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound in his leg. Police say he was taken to the hospital with “life-threatening injuries,” listed as “critical” as of Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the RCMP says the suspect fled the scene before officers arrived, prompting a search of a nearby forested area.
Mounties, along with the Lower Mainland Emergency Response Team and the police canine unit, searched the area for two hours, locating the suspect after about two hours.
Eric Myren, 48, has been arrested and faces charges of aggravated assault and discharging a firearm with intent. He is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday afternoon.
The RCMP adds that the incident does not appear to be linked to gang activity.
Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call the Chilliwack RCMP at 604-792-4611 and reference file 2023-36874.
