You may want to consider avoiding the Lions Gate Bridge for any late-night trips to or from the North Shore during the next couple of weekends.
Traffic on the bridge will be reduced to alternating single lanes overnight beginning Friday evening for resurfacing work.
The B.C. government says the partial closures will begin at 10 p.m. on Sept. 15 and 16, lasting until 8 a.m. the next day. Sunday night will also see overnight work, but it will reopen at 5:30 a.m. Monday in time for the morning commute.
The same schedule of closures will be in place on Sept. 22, 23, and 24.
The province says at least one sidewalk will remain open during the work so pedestrians and cyclists can get across the bridge.
“This scheduled paving of the north approach viaduct is part of regular road maintenance to keep the bridge safe and in good working order. Work has been scheduled during nighttime hours to minimize traffic disruptions,” a provincial release said.
Drivers are also being advised to expect delays on the Iron Workers Memorial Bridge during the Lions Gate closures.
