    B.C. tourism sector remains optimistic

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team says a shooting that left two people dead at a Chilliwack trailer park may have been part of an ongoing dispute between neighbours. Sarah Chew has the story.

Two people are dead after a shooting at a Chilliwack home Wednesday evening.

Integrated Homicide Investigation Team Sgt. Timothy Pierotti says Chilliwack RCMP officers responded to reports of shots fired along Chilliwack Lake Road, near Vedder Mountain Road, around 7:45 p.m.

“Upon arrival, members identified two individuals inside a residence deceased. A suspect was identified at the scene and taken into custody,” Pierotti told CityNews.

IHIT says the shooting may have stemmed from a “neighbour dispute.”

“Their relationship — we’re looking to determine exactly what it is … The first person that had been identified, we can say, they did reside at that location,” Pierotti explained. “We’re still trying to determine exactly what would have caused this dispute. The reason that I say I believe it to be a neighbor dispute is I believe that they reside next to each other.

“It’s believed at this point that there’s no further risk to the public, and the Chilliwack RCMP have the scene secured,” he added.

Few details are available at this time, and Pierotti says IHIT is working to determine whether the double homicide is linked to the ongoing B.C. gang conflict.

No charges have been laid so far.

“At this point, we’re still trying to learn as much as we can. Chilliwack RCMP did a fantastic job last night of securing the scene and taking some like locating a suspect person and then taking them into custody to prevent the potential for any further incidents,” Pierotti said.
