Hundreds gather in Vancouver to protest Iran’s Islamic regime

A large crowd of people gathered outside the Vancouver Art Gallery on Saturday to protest Iran’s Islamic regime and mark the one year anniversary of 22-year-old Masha Amini’s death.
Amini died while in police custody in Iran, after being arrested for not wearing her hijab correctly. Her death sparked global outrage.
One year later, protestors in Vancouver say, as Iranians living in Canada, they feel a responsibility to embolden their voices against Iran’s Islamic regime.
“This is the least I can do for my people in Iran. They have no voice,” one protestor told CityNews
This revolution goes beyond Amini’s death, say multiple protestors. It’s about everything from the right to food, a salary, and a normal life, for people in Iran.
“I believe this revolution is not only about head coverings of women in Iran, it’s about everything,” a protestor said.

The crowds in front of the gallery were peppered with flags and signs signifying solidarity with the young women’s death, as well as the deaths of several other young Iranians.
Chanting protestors say, ultimately, the demonstration stands for freedom.
“People have no freedom, whatsoever in Iran, if they speak against this government if they do anything about this government, no matter what they are in a jail, they get tortured, they executed,” a protestor said.
By gathering, protestors say they’re hoping to attract the attention of the Canadian government, as well as foreign governments.

“We’re all against the Islamic republic of Iran, whether you’re inside of it or outside of it,” a protestor told CityNews. “That’s why we’re all getting together, to say it louder and attract the attention of foreign governments to back us up against the Islamic republic.”
Protestors say they plan to continue demonstrating resistance to the regime until people in Iran regain their freedom.
On Friday, Canada banned an additional six senior Iranian regime officials from entering Canada.
