Kelowna ATV theft leads to hour-long police chase

Mounties say two men have been arrested after an hour-long chase through Kelowna on Tuesday after an ATV was allegedly stolen.

The Kelowna RCMP says around 4:30 p.m. officers got word of a vehicle theft at a car dealership in Spectrum Court, along Alton Parkway.

Police say two men had expressed interest in buying a 2022 Polaris RZR side-by-side vehicle. The two are said to have then seated themselves in the driver and passenger seats before speeding off without warning.

Mounties say the ATV was seen racing through Kelowna “showing a complete disregard for other vehicles on the highway.” This includes veering into oncoming traffic and crashing through several fences, police say.

The RCMP says a helicopter and police dog service were deployed to track down the suspects after they had rolled the vehicle over — about an hour after it was stolen.

Police say two men, both from Oliver, have been arrested and face numerous criminal and traffic charges.

Mounties are asking anyone with dashcam footage of the incident to contact the Kelowna RCMP at (250) 762-3300, reference file number 2023-59231.
