Vancouver’s third annual Witchilano SUP Paddle took place Saturday, conjuring hundreds of local witches — and warlocks — to Kitsilano Beach.
The event was inspired by the annual Witch Paddle in Portland, Oregon, which attracts hundreds of participants every year.
Witchilano organizers requested that all paddlers wear a witch (or warlock) costume and dress mostly in black. Organizer Maria Dol says is a way to celebrate the “spooky season” and all things festive.

“Today we have a bunch of witches gathering to do a witch’s paddle, so we’re going to go out to Granville Island and then probably back,” she said. “And (it’s) just a good place for everyone to gather in costume,” she said.
The event was free but organizers requested that paddlers bring a donation for SHARE Family and Community Services.
