Vancouver apartment fire leaves one hurt, says VFRS

Fire crews say one person is recovering from smoke inhalation after a fire broke out in a Vancouver apartment building Sunday evening.

Vancouver Fire Rescue Services (VFRS) say they were called out to the building near the area of West 2nd and Columbia shortly after 6:00 p.m. where they found a small apartment fire contained to a single unit.

“Sprinkler activation suppressed most of the fire upon fire crew arrival,” VFRS acting assistant chief operation Al Gregory told CityNews. “One report of one injury, slight smoke inhalation by the occupant of the apartment. No other injuries to report.”

Gregory said crews started wrapping up less than an hour after they arrived, at which point they were waiting for the arrival of an ambulance to treat the person suffering from smoke inhalation.
