Teen arrested after fire started on BC Ferries vessel

A 16-year-old boy was arrested after a fire was allegedly started on board a BC Ferries vessel Tuesday.

The Sidney North Saanich RCMP says the incident happened just after 8:30 p.m. after ferry staff reported a fire in one of the vessel’s washrooms.

Police say at the time, the boat was docked at the Swartz Bay Terminal.

“The extent of the damage remains under investigation,” BC RCMP Corp. Alex Bérubé said. “The youth was later released and is set to appear in court at a later date.”

Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact the RCMP at 250-656-3931.
