U.S. Coast Guard rescues Canadians from boat in Washington

The U.S. Coast Guard says two Canadians were rescued from a boat that was “adrift” off the coast of Washington state Tuesday.

The agency shared dramatic video of the rescue on social media. In it, a Coast Guard member from Air Station Astoria is seen lowering themselves into the water from a helicopter.

The video shows a mad dash to the vessel, which was about 130 kilometres “offshore of Neah Bay.”

The two Canadian men are then seen jumping from the sail boat into the water, wearing lifejackets, before they are hoisted up into the air in rescue baskets.

In replies on social media, the agency says the vessel, which it initially described as “sinking,” was “adrift” due to a dead generator, torn sails, and a broken propeller.

The Coast Guard says the Canadians “are in stable condition.”
