East Vancouver basement fire under investigation: VFS

Vancouver Fire Services says it responded to a house fire on Argyle Street around 7:30 a.m. Sunday morning.

Assistant Fire Chief Mike Anzulovich says the fire was confined to the basement of the house at 1761 Argyle Street.

He says two residents were evacuated from the basement and a third resident was evacuated from the upstairs of the home.

“The basement was fully involved so I don’t believe the residents will be able to go back into the basement today, or for a while,” Anzulovich said.

Everyone got out of the home safely and no injuries were reported, Anzulovich said.

“It was about three blocks from the fire hall … so they were able to confine it to the basement and knock it down quickly,” he said.

He says a fire investigator is currently on scene and the cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
