Creston RCMP arrest high-profile U.S. fugitive

Mounties have arrested what they are calling a “top priority fugitive,” they said Friday.

Cole Levine, who was wanted for rape, attempted kidnapping, and aggravated assault, was arrested in Creston, B.C., which is about 14 km north of the Canada-U.S. border crossing near Porthills, Idaho.

Police say they got a tip earlier in the day that Levine was in the Kootenay town.

“This was another outstanding response and performance by Creston Detachment’s frontline team,” said Creston RCMP Sgt. Brandon Buliziuk. “I am proud of my officers for their excellent work on this file and arresting such a dangerous individual.”

Mounties say they are now working with Canada Border Services and American authorities to return Levine back to the U.S.
