Investigators say they’ve determined that a death they were probing after remains were found at an explosion site in the Township of Langley was not a homicide.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has “returned” the case to the Langley RCMP.
IHIT says this determination came “after several days of investigation.”
On Sunday, human remains were found inside a building by firefighters who had been responding to an explosion at a rural property in the area of 8 Avenue between Brown Road and 248 Street.
“It was a substantial explosion which left significant damage to the property,” Sgt. Timothy Pierotti with IHIT told CityNews Monday.
The remains were found inside an outbuilding after the fire was knocked down. It was not clear if the victim died as a result of the explosion.

At the time, Pierotti said “there was evidence to suggest the person was met with foul play.”
The Langley RCMP is now continuing to investigate the circumstances around the explosion. A cause has not yet been determined.
