Parts of Highway 97 to be closed Monday for road work

Heads up if you plan to use Highway 97 between Kelowna and Penticton on Monday: the road will be closed for two hours from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for road work.

The Ministry of Transportation says the closure is needed to work on stabilizing the area of a major rockslide that closed the road for several weeks in September.

Blasting began on Tuesday, the ministry says, and about 250 cubic metres of slide material was removed from the site. Additional blasting will be carried out in November, and closures will be scheduled to cause as little disruption as possible. They will take place in daylight hours for safety.

More information about further closures will be provided in the days to come.
