Highway 3 remains closed in both directions due to rockslide

A portion of B.C.’s Highway 3 remains closed in both directions Monday due to a rockslide near Keremeos Sunday.

DriveBC first posted about the issue on X Sunday evening, stating the closure runs for a 5.5 km stretch between Hedley-Nickleplate Road and Ashnola Road.

On Monday, it provided an update, saying an assessment was underway but no estimated completion time was available.

DriveBC says it will provide an update on the situation at 1 p.m. on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, there is an alternate route to get around the issue.

“Detour available via Highway 3 to Highway 97 to Highway 5 then to Highway 5A,” the service posted online.

When DriveBC first posted about the incident just after 7:30 p.m. Sunday, it had reported that there were rocks on the road, and a power outage was reported in the area. It also said that FortisBC was on its way.

Two hours later, it reported the full closure of the highway in both directions.
