Bright Nights tickets rapidly sell out ahead of Stanley Park train’s big return

Tickets for Bright Nights in Vancouver went on sale Thursday — but if you’re hoping to snag one for the much-anticipated return of the Stanley Park train, you’re out of luck.

Tickets have officially sold out, less than a full day after the website went live.

The Vancouver Park Board says it took less than 90 minutes for more than 23,000 tickets to be sold.

Despite the quick uptake, the board says it was wasn’t exactly smooth sailing during the sales.

“We appreciate the tremendous interest in the train and recognize the challenges that some users encountered while trying to buy tickets,” the Vancouver Park Board said online.

“We share in the collective disappointment that not everyone was able to secure tickets, and we will be reviewing our ticketing process going forward.”

Tickets were sold $15 for adults, $13 for seniors and youth, $11 for kids, and free for kids two and under.

This holiday season will mark the first in a while that families will be able to climb aboard the attraction.

The Bright Nights Train takes spectators through Stanley Park, where people can take in thousands of sparking lights.

“Today is an incredibly special day: today we’re going to announce that the Stanley Park train is back. That’s right. It’s back, baby,” Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim announced Monday.

The train will run from Nov. 30 until Jan. 1. It is closed on Dec. 25.

The city says the holiday lights display and the activities in the plaza will still be open and are free to the public, even if the train is sold out.

All proceeds from Bright Nights go to the BC Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn Fund, with the city describing this as the largest fundraiser for the organization.
